XO cloud control?

running solaris, from the XO via amazon aws.

not quite perfect; the default amazon web control panel is a bit too big for the screen, but is just usable.

did not try the java command line utils.

not geektown twitter

have twitter hooked up: here. geektown was taken :(

find that search feeds are a privacy enhanced follow option...

k6 on ubuntu 8.04-2

finally updated the old k6

running xubuntu 8.04, with additions;

unfortunately not quite perfect;

changed internal sound card to one xubuntu does not seem to like.
is pci rather than the old isa one, so should be pnp...

(slax found it ok)

also does not poweroff correctly, or xset +dpms properly;

oh well...

lets me use the vpn.

XO bean sprouts

got a webcam program running, pointing at our bean sprouts.

using:
fswebcam-20070108-1.i386.rpm
manually extracted onto a usb key;

did need to also extract one library:
gd-2.0.35-5.fc9.i386.rpm

working like a charm:

#!/bin/sh
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH={above lib on usb key also}
MYDATE=`date +20%y%m%d%H%M%S`
fswebcam --verbose --no-banner --no-timestamp --save tw_$MYDATE.jpg

olpc xo Physics Activity

Very cool;

liked by all; dropping blocks and balls on top of each other and watching them roll and bounce away elicits giggles...

Sugar on Fedora 10

Finally got around to updating kpc to Fedora 10

and running sugar-emulator !

so have sugar running on the downstairs system, and the upstairs actual XO laptop.

is bigger, brighter and faster on the kpc, but a bit less stable;
not everything works.

New XO Keyboard

finally giving up on hacking the old "sticky keys" keyboard.

found online supplier for OLPC parts:

XOExplosion.com

they seemed legit; and take paypal, so filled out the online form to order a new one.

<$20

Keyboard arrived Friday!

(was away this weekend)

will try to replace... this week?

here's how...
